To play a remote M3U8 or HLS stream in Dashow, choose Video link and enter the complete supported media URL. Test the stream on your iPhone, then select a compatible car display while parked. If the link describes a channel lineup instead of one stream, add it through M3U Playlist.

Use the direct HLS address supplied by your own source.

Choose Add → Video link. For an .m3u8 URL, keep Video link selected under Open As for a single HLS stream.

Start with the stream address, not its webpage.
An HLS address often ends in .m3u8, but the complete URL matters more than the visible extension. It identifies a playlist the player uses to request video and audio resources. A webpage address may instead lead to sign-in screens, text and an embedded player. Those are different inputs even if they show the same video in a browser.
Use an address your source provides for direct playback. Preserve the full path and any required parameters. Do not remove part of the link simply because it looks long. Some URLs are temporary or account-specific, so a previously working address may need to be refreshed through the source’s supported access method.
Add the HLS stream in Dashow.
Choose Add → Video link and enter the complete remote address. For a URL ending in .m3u8, check the Open As selector and keep Video link selected for one HLS stream. Open the resulting item on iPhone and check that it is the intended program. A live broadcast may begin at its current position; an on-demand item may provide seeking.
If you intended to import a list of channels, use M3U Playlist instead. A channel lineup is a browsing source, while a direct HLS stream is a media item. Separating those two tasks makes it easier to understand whether a problem occurred while reading the list or while playing a chosen stream.
Give the working stream a car display.
Once the stream plays on your iPhone, connect to your compatible receiver while parked and choose the appropriate display. Test the same program so only the output changes. If it remains smooth on the phone but fails on the external screen, investigate the selected display route instead of immediately replacing the stream URL.
A live source still needs a working content connection as the program continues. A car-screen connection does not, by itself, make that remote content local. For a charging break or pickup wait, test reception before you settle in and keep a completed local video as another option when your internet connection is uneven.
An HLS manifest is not an offline movie.
Downloading a small M3U8 text file does not necessarily download the media it references. A stream can depend on many separate resources, and a live playlist may change as the broadcast progresses. A local manifest with missing segments cannot replace a completed local video prepared for the trip.
For offline viewing, use a supported imported video or an eligible completed server download in Dashow. Play the kept copy on your iPhone before leaving. If you want to diagnose the remote stream, compare it with another direct URL or a local clip and keep the distinction between source delivery and display output clear.
