YOUR COLLECTION HAS PLACES TO BE

Your Plex library. Your CarPlay cinema.

To watch your Plex library on a compatible CarPlay video display, add Plex in Dashow, sign in, choose your server, and open a movie or TV episode. Confirm playback on iPhone before selecting the car display while parked. For offline stops, download a supported title in Dashow before leaving your network.

How it works

Your quick start

  1. 01

    Connect Plex

In Dashow, open Add, choose Plex, and complete the Plex sign-in flow.

  2. 02

    Choose your library

Select an available server and open a movie or a show’s episode.

  3. 03

    Prepare the watch

Test streaming on iPhone or complete a supported download before leaving.

  4. 04

    Choose your car display

Once parked, select your compatible display and confirm the actual picture and sound.

Keep the library you already know.

Your Plex collection already has the films, shows, and organization you chose. In Dashow, open Add, select Plex, and complete Sign In to Plex. Choose a server available to that account, then open one of its video libraries. A successful connection gives you actual films and episodes to browse, rather than just saving an account name.

Start with a familiar title. Open its details, check you have the version or episode you intended, and play a short scene on iPhone. This confirms access to the media itself before you bring a car display into the setup.

Make the next episode easy to find.

A TV show is a particularly good fit for a charging stop or lunch break. Browse to the episode you want, or use Continue Watching and the Plex On Deck information surfaced in Dashow. The point is to return to your story without starting a new search at every stop.

Dashow reports supported Plex playback activity back to the server. That helps the library’s watch state follow what you watched here. If another device recently changed your place, let the connected library refresh before choosing the saved or streamed title you want to continue.

Bring a copy when home will be out of reach.

For a supported Plex movie or episode with a single media part, choose Download in Dashow. Let the transfer complete on Wi-Fi and open the resulting saved video. Check a scene near the beginning and another farther into the movie before treating it as ready for the road.

The saved copy joins your local library and can play without fetching the film from your server. A download made inside a different Plex client is separate; it is not automatically a file available to Dashow. Use the download or import route for the app you plan to watch with.

Move from your server to the screen in front of you.

Once parked, connect your iPhone and choose the compatible car display in Dashow’s player. Verify the video itself appears, then check dialogue and pause. A receiver needs video support for this route; simply having a Plex account and a normal CarPlay connection does not establish the display capability.

For the first setup, test an imported personal video as a reference. If that works and a server title does not, you can concentrate on the Plex source, selected media, and network instead of repeating the entire car connection process.

When the library opens but the movie does not.

Artwork and library browsing use less of a connection than continuous video playback. Try the same title on iPhone, confirm the server is reachable from the network you are using, and check whether another known-good title plays. If the problem begins only away from home, inspect the server’s remote-access setup or use a completed local download.

If Dashow asks you to sign in again, use the Plex account that owns the saved connection. An expired or changed account session is a different problem from an unavailable movie file, and fixing the sign-in first keeps the next check focused.

GOOD QUESTION

A few things you might be wondering.

Can I use my own Plex movies on CarPlay?

Yes, through Dashow’s Plex library and a compatible car video display while parked. Start with a movie your Plex account can access, verify it on iPhone, then check the same scene on your selected receiver.

Can Plex movies in Dashow be watched offline?

Eligible single-part Plex movies and episodes can be downloaded in Dashow. Complete the transfer and test the saved copy before leaving. Server permissions, media structure, and actual playback determine whether a particular title is suitable.

Does a Plex server need to stay online while I watch?

For a server stream, it must remain reachable. A completed local copy can play without streaming the movie from the server. Playback reporting and updated server information need a working connection when they are exchanged.
