YOUR EMBY LIBRARY, READY TO GO

Emby on CarPlay. Keep the story with you.

To watch Emby on a compatible CarPlay display, add your Emby server and account in Dashow, open a movie or episode, and test playback on iPhone. Select the car video display while parked. Use a supported local download when you want to watch without reaching the Emby server during the stop.

How it works

Your quick start

  1. 01

    Connect Emby

Choose Emby in Add and enter your server address and server-account credentials.

  2. 02

    Find the right episode

Open a movie library or browse a show by season, then check playback on iPhone.

  3. 03

    Choose stream or download

Use a reachable server connection, or complete a supported local download beforehand.

  4. 04

    Settle into the car display

Once parked, choose your compatible video display and confirm the scene and sound.

Start with the server account that knows your library.

Open Add in Dashow and select Emby. Use your server’s address and the account that has access to the movies or shows you want. Start from a network where that server already works. After connecting, open a library and confirm the expected titles are visible.

Choose one familiar episode for your first playback check. Verify the title, season, and episode number, then play a scene on iPhone. This confirms you have reached both the right library and the underlying video before adding the receiver in your car.

Make a series feel like a series.

Browse the show’s seasons and episodes with the artwork and information supplied by Emby. Next Up helps you find the next part, while Continue Watching gives an unfinished episode a place to return to. That structure is especially useful when a lunch break ends before the credits.

Supported playback activity is sent back to the server so its watch state can follow your viewing. You can also mark a title watched or unwatched. Keep the server reachable when you want the latest state to be exchanged with the rest of your library.

Put the next part on your iPhone before the trip.

Choose Download on a supported Emby movie or episode. Eligible season pages offer Download Season for content not already kept. Let the transfers complete on a good connection, then open the saved copies and check the picture, dialogue, and a point later in the timeline.

The saved videos can be played without streaming their content from home. A small watchlist of known-good episodes is a useful first trip setup. Settings lets you control cellular downloads and optional download behavior as you become familiar with how much you want to keep.

Choose access that matches where you will watch.

On home Wi-Fi, use the local server route that already works. Away from home, streaming needs the server’s configured remote access and the relevant account permissions. Emby’s connection documentation distinguishes local and remote addresses; a local address does not automatically travel with your phone.

If you would rather keep the parked break independent of those details, prepare a download. Then select the compatible car display in Dashow while parked and confirm the actual video. A local movie helps you focus the first car test on the display, not the network.

Use the symptom to choose your next check.

A sign-in error calls for checking the Emby account and password. A missing library calls for checking that account’s access. Artwork that loads while video stalls calls for testing the actual media and the connection carrying it. These are different steps, so change one thing at a time.

If a known local video works on the car display but an Emby stream does not, replay that stream on iPhone. If it fails there too, concentrate on the source. If it plays on the phone, compare the file and output route with your working reference.

GOOD QUESTION

A few things you might be wondering.

Can I bring my Emby library to CarPlay without reorganizing it?

Dashow browses your Emby films and shows using the server’s structure and information. Add the server, select your library, and use a compatible car video display. You do not need to manually import every title simply to browse the collection.

Can Emby movies be watched offline in Dashow?

Supported movies and episodes can be downloaded in Dashow, including eligible season downloads. Check completion and test the actual saved copy. Viewing a server page or making a download in another client does not mean Dashow holds the media locally.

Why does Emby work at home but not in the car?

The phone may no longer be on a network that can reach the server’s local address. Test the configured remote route from the connection you will use, or prepare a local download. If the same stream fails on iPhone, begin with the server connection rather than the car display.
