PREPARED NOW. ENJOYED LATER.
Download movies for CarPlay. Look forward to the next stop.
Prepare movies for Dashow by importing supported videos from Files or Photos, or downloading eligible titles from a connected Plex, Jellyfin or Emby library. Wait until the copy is complete, then play it on your iPhone before leaving. The local movie does not need an internet stream; a compatible car display still needs its own connection.
- 01
Import a supported personal video or download an eligible server title.
- 02
A queued download is different from a completed local copy.
- 03
Test the actual kept video before your trip.

Connect to a compatible display while parked and enjoy the prepared watch.
Bring a movie from Files or Photos.
Open Add in Dashow and choose Files or Photos. Select the supported video you want to take with you. Dashow creates a managed local copy, giving the chosen item a place in your library instead of making you search the original folder or full camera roll at every stop.
If the original is stored remotely by another service, allow the import to finish before treating it as ready. The useful result is an actual playable copy on the device. Start with a small familiar video so you can learn the import flow, then prepare the longer film or episode you want for the trip.
Download an eligible movie or episode from your server.
Connect your Plex, Jellyfin or Emby library, open the title you want and use Download where the item supports it. Dashow shows download progress and adds a completed copy to the device library. A supported season page can offer Download Season for episodes not already kept, making a short travel queue easier to prepare.
Source access still matters while the file is being transferred. Keep the server reachable and allow the download to finish. Some server items or media structures may not be eligible, so use the action available for the actual title instead of assuming every poster can become a local copy.
Choose your download settings intentionally.
Dashow includes settings for Download over Cellular, Download Next Episode and Remove Finished Downloads. These are off by default. Review them around the way you travel: a few manual downloads may suit an occasional campsite, while a regular series viewer may want to prepare the next eligible episode through the available setting.
A download that is waiting for Wi-Fi is not a finished movie. Check the state of the item rather than simply remembering that you tapped Download. Keep enough available device storage for the copies you selected, and remove completed watches you no longer need when preparing the next small queue.
Make “ready” mean that the copy actually plays.
Open the completed item from your library or Downloads and play a recognizable part on the iPhone. Check picture, audio and the place you want to resume. To confirm that the media is local, test without relying on the remote source connection; keep any wireless link required by your display separate from that check.
Once the copy is verified, connect to a compatible car display while parked. The movie can now play from device storage, without fetching the film from your home server or a live internet source. That gives a charging break, rest stop or evening campsite a watch you prepared on your own terms.
Dashow.
